Transforming old jewelry
In recent years, many people have been selling their old jewelry, thinking that it is better to get cash when buying new jewelry.
Think again!
Did you know that you might have items in your possession that can be transformed into one or more very modern and trendy pieces of jewelry? And at a fraction of the price of a new piece? There may be treasures at the bottom of your drawer...
An old gold ring can be cut into different pieces: Use the base to mount a new top, you may save more than $100.00 in some cases! You could also transform the cut top of the ring into a beautiful pendant, by adding a simple ring...or use the stones for a new mounting. A ring too thin for your taste can be soldered on a wide band, by integrating elements of different colors, or be surrounded by two small bands worked on each side (or old hoop earrings transformed into a ring outline?)
Broken pieces of gold or silver chain? Nothing like it to make a pair of dangling earrings! Three rods of different lengths held by a fixed earring (that you already have in hand), or even hooks, make a very sexy and trendy set... why not add pearls or diamonds if you have them?
An old pearl necklace that you don't want to part with, but that you no longer wear because you find it too old-fashioned? Have it taken apart, cleaned, then connected in pieces of 5 or 6 pearls to a chain cut into pieces of a few inches (that you already own?). The total length will be around 30 inches, which will make it a unique and very trendy model. Or, combine several pearl necklaces together (it doesn't matter if the pearls are similar or not), and make yourself a Charleston-style mixed pearl necklace! Another idea would be to make a 3-row bracelet with your pearls, it's very feminine and much more current.

Old earrings alone? If they are post earrings, why not make small rings with the posts, and insert all the loops on a leather cord, or even on a wrist chain, the charm bracelet reinvented... If they are ring earrings, why not integrate them into a chain, to make a very modern necklace with rings of different sizes here and there?
An old brooch of your grandmother's is lying around at the bottom of the drawer...use it to connect a variety of chain pieces into a multi-strand bracelet, or a single very long one that will go around your wrist 4 or 5 times. Or if it's gold, transform the brooch into a large ring! All that's missing is the base, which you may already have on hand?
Often, a simple refurbishment of a piece of jewelry can give it a new life... tarnished, scratched, crooked, dirty, or neglected jewelry looks like it came straight from a jeweler's counter when you take the time to refurbish it. You'd be surprised to fall in love with your jewelry all over again!
