birthstone pierre de naissance rubis ruby

Ruby = July

Ruby, a red stone from the same family as sapphire, owes its name to its red color, from the Latin "rubeus." A symbol of ardent love, admired and sought after for millennia, the ruby fascinates.

Rubis = Juillet

Of the Corundum family, to which sapphire also belongs, only red-colored stones can be called rubies. All other colors such as blue, yellow, green, or even white are sapphires. This red stone is rare...rarer than diamonds, and of a hardness approaching them. When of a vibrant color, and of limpid purity, it is sought after by collectors from all over the world. The most important factor in determining the quality and value of the stone is its color. The more pronounced the red, without any tinge of brown or blue, the more valuable the stone. The "pigeon's blood" red, vivid and intense, is the most sought after.

This stone, said to have powers, is the queen of precious stones. It has long been believed that rubies provide good health, and that dreaming of rubies would bring success in business. It would also give wisdom and success in matters of the heart.

It is also said to have prophetic powers, announcing bad omens if its color turns black. Ancient soldiers wore a ruby to protect themselves against all enemies and injuries in battle.
