The Canadian Diamond

Canadian diamonds are coveted for their positive attributes. They come from the exotic and beautiful part of Canada's Far North.

Canadian diamonds are mined in accordance with the highest environmental standards in the world and according to the principle of sustainable development.

Canadian diamonds meet the requirements of the Kimberley Process and many can be traced back to the mine of origin.

What is a “Canadian diamond”?

This is a diamond extracted from a mine located in Canada, regardless of whether the cutting or polishing is carried out in Canada or abroad.

What should I ask?

For each polished diamond, an invoice and a certificate containing the following information:

  • the description of the polished diamond;
  • the diamond identification number;
  • a certificate attesting that the polished diamond is of Canadian origin as well as the contact details of the author of the certificate;
  • the refund policy;

What are the benefits of the Code?

The Code establishes a minimum standard based on a set of documents and guarantees to authenticate a "Canadian diamond" designation. Retailers who are members of the Code demonstrate to consumers that they are prepared to ensure the authenticity of their "Canadian diamond" designations. The Code allows Canadian diamonds to be traced from their mines of origin to retailers who provide consumers with a method to authenticate "Canadian diamond" designations sold by a Code member.

Are Canadian diamonds more expensive?

Mining diamonds to the highest environmental and social standards comes with additional costs. The effort required to meet minimum code requirements also adds to the cost of handling diamonds, as they must be verifiably monitored from the mine of origin to the consumer.
