Emerald = May
The green color of emerald symbolizes love, rebirth, eternal youth, it is the color of spring!
From the Greek smaragolus, meaning green stone, the emerald is the subject of beliefs and legends that claim it has virtues for the eyes. It is said that looking at the emerald rests tired eyes, as vision is refreshed and restored. Emperor Nero watched gladiators through glasses made of emeralds, which would correct myopia, because he believed that luck would be more on his side if he saw the fight with these glasses. According to a Hebrew tradition, snakes that look at it go blind.
Emerald has many inclusions, which make it susceptible to breakage and cracking. These inclusions, called "garden" or "frost," are readily accepted because they attest to its origin.
Colombia produces 60% of the world's emeralds, followed by Brazil and Russia. Emerald is one of the world's four most famous gemstones.
